Did you know that their is a staggering amount of textile waste every year that is brand NEW fabric?

When most people think of textile waste, they think of worn clothing tossed into donation bins, but did you know there is also an issue for brand new fabric that has never been touched by a consumer?

There is approximately 93 million tons of textile waste every year combined between pre and post consumer textile waste!!

Pre-consumer textile waste consists of several factors, and reasons why it exists.

The largest contributor is leftover surplus from fashion productions. 10-35% extra fabric is ordered as a standard to account for potential mistakes.

It is a challenge to move for a few reasons.

This fabric is considered dead stock, once it is finished, there isn’t more to order. This leads to limitations in the amount of products that can be produced.

Designers have reservations on parting ways with this fabric as it can lead to counterfeiting, and compromise their brand marketing.

Other forms of this new waste is unsold inventory (fabric and products), rejected fabrics, and even fabric scraps.

Inventory is a commodity, and fashion is fleeting.

Businesses need to purge products that aren’t selling to make space for products that are.

There is so much waste, there isn’t a better way for it.

Here at Last Stitch we are creating a better way.

We have created a marketplace to help divert waste from landfills, and build a network for sustainability.

Those with surplus fabric can post it, and those who are in need can pick it up.

Fabric can be used for personal use, or it can be resold, repurposed, and monetized in our marketplace.

Every yard, and every unit sold is tracked so we can see our impact, and contribution.
